How to get the most flawless glow – tan routine prep

There is honestly nothing like a fresh tan- it makes any outfit feel ten times more put together and makes you look like you’ve stepped straight out of a Euro summer. Tan prep is just as important as how it's applied and we’re about to spill the essential tips to keeping your tan lasting the full week.

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate

We recommend using exfoliation mitts to prepare the skin. Gently exfoliate the body using circular motions while being cautious not to exfoliate too aggressively as this can cause skin irritation. Really concentrate on bony areas such as the knees, ankles and wrists which are areas that are particularly prone to dry skin and can cause fake tan to appear patchy and dark.

Hair removal

Body hair removal should always be done the night before to allow for the pores to properly close. This prevents tan entering open pores which can cause the appearance of small brown dots on the skin..no thanks! Waxing should be done at least two days prior to allow skin tears to heal properly, as unhealed skin can appear darker and patchy.

Moisturise

This really is the secret to getting a flawless tan and keeping it for the full week. Moisturising the skin a few hours before applying tan softens and hydrates the skin which allows for more even tan application. Try to avoid putting moisturiser on directly before tanning as the product ingredients can sometimes react and cause the tan to discolour (hello green skin!). Moisturising daily reduces the skin from flaking off during its natural shedding process which prolongs the tan overall.

Our favourite tip is applying a light layer of coconut oil to elbows, wrists and ankles before applying fake tan and watch the tan go on flawlessly...you’re welcome.

Get cosy

Once you have applied tan to the skin, you want to make sure you protect it from anything that will cause it to become streaky, patchy and uneven. This is particularly common in areas such as wrists and ankles where tan can easily come off from tight or rough seams. This is particularly common when wearing garments such as sweat pants or tightly fitted tops. The Original Cosy jumpsuit is semi-loose fitted around the ankles and wrists and provides ultra-soft full body coverage for the most comfortable and optimal marination conditions.

Happy tanning babes!
